I’ll begin by saying that my visit to Naoshima, was the most surreal and beautiful art experience I have had to date.

Towards the east of Japan lies Naoshima, a tiny island in a calm and quiet sea which is known for it’s many contemporary art museums most of which are designed by Tadao Ando, a renown Japanese architect known for his minimalist concrete structures and creative use of natural light. This mastery of space and light creates incredible sensations as you navigate through immense 3-dimensional structures built right into the earth. It honestly feels like you are in another dimension. That’s what the Naoshima experience is. A place not of this world.

Unfortunately, photography is prohibited within all of the museum spaces (I managed to get a few sneaky ones in), but photos really don’t do this place justice. It’s an experience that your body and all of your senses need to be immersed in.
