The day of my 32nd birthday we drove south to the Big Bend National Park area to an off the grid location. Our tiny shack in the middle of nowhere was our little solitude. Powered by rainwater and solar power we had quite the ordeal on New Years Day after an overnight frost blew through and we woke to find the toilets wouldn't flush and our dishes soaking in the kitchen sink had frozen solid. With no source of heat, it was probably the coldest I've ever felt in my life.
But outside of that, the area is breathtaking. A truly underrated part of the USA.
