Ice and Fire

Golden hours on the Icelandic tundra

Story by This Honest Life January 25th, 2017

GAS STATION HOT DOGS

Someone regaled me, in a carpark in Philadelphia, that all they ate in Iceland for 10 days was gas station hot dogs. I have an insatiable love for hot dogs and all things beginning with the word 'Ice', so I naturally found myself in Iceland a few weeks later with a bunch of hot dog partial friends ready to crawl across the tundra.

For 5 days it felt like back-to-back episodes of The Amazing Race. We drove well over a 1000kms, squeezing every last penny of the 5 hours of daylight we had been dealt with. It's hard to escape pictures of Iceland popping up on Instagram so you've no doubt already seen that the country looks like Mars. Not a tree in sight. Atmospheric lighting. Horizons lines that make your jeans feel tight.

Would come back here in a heartbeat. I hope I one day get the chance to travel the entire circumference of the country.
